Winter dry scalp...
During the winter months, your scalp can often become very dry. The most inexpensive way to keep the skin balanced is to drink an adequate amount of water per day. This will aide in maintaining a healthy skin PH (potential of hydrogen) of around 5.5. PH levels range from zero to 14 on the scale, with zero being acidic (ex. battery acid) and 14 being alkaline (ex. ammonia). In the middle of the scale, milk would be an example of a neutral level.
I often would help clients by pretreating the scalp and skin prior to shampooing. Such a product that is easy to find in stores is an Astringent or Tea Tree oil which helps lift dead skin cuticles from the surface of your scalp.
You would apply a liberal amount of the product on the scalp and gently rub it in, allowing it to sit for 2-3 minutes. You would then shampoo the scalp as normal (two times if necessary) and apply a moisturizing conditioner to the hair and scalp, allowing it to sit for a few minutes. Rinse the hair and scalp with lukewarm water. Dry the hair and scalp and apply a small dime-sized amount of an essential oil to the scalp such as Tea Tree, Coconut, Lavender, Lemongrass, Jojoba, or Rosemary for example. (ensure you have no allergies to certain oils first).
I would suggest doing this during the evening 1-2 times per week until the condition improves. If the condition does not improve, please see a professional skin care specialist or medical representative.
